Michael Hingson, blind since shortly after birth, was on the 78th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. With his guide dog Roselle, he descended 1,463 steps, escaping just before the South Tower collapsed, then helped a woman temporarily blinded by dust.
