Bayard Rustin

Bayard Rustin (1912–1987) was an African American civil rights activist and one of the most important organizers of the Civil Rights Movement. A committed Quaker and devoted advocate of nonviolent resistance, Rustin served as the principal organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, though his contributions were often minimized due to racism and homophobia.
