Alexander von Humboldt

Prussian naturalist and explorer (1769–1859) who fundamentally changed how we see nature and the environment. Humboldt traveled the Americas, observing ecosystems holistically and recognizing connections between climate, vegetation, and geography. He coined the concept of the 'plant community' and helped establish the modern environmental worldview.
