SYSK Gets Weird Playlist: Dragons: As Real as Mermaids

In this episode of Stuff You Should Know, Josh and Chuck take on the myth of dragons, exploring why these legendary creatures have captured the human imagination for millennia. They note that dragons, much like mermaids, are not real animals, but their prevalence in cultures worldwide—from European fire-breathers to Chinese celestial beings—speaks to deep-seated psychological or environmental origins. The hosts discuss possible real-world inspirations for dragon myths, such as dinosaur fossils or modern reptiles, and the enduring symbolism of dragons as embodiments of power, chaos, or wisdom.
